Hot vs. Cold

The jury is out on how to best “repair” carpet indentations when furniture is moved to a new location. Many homeowners put ice cubes in the indentations and leave them there to melt and dry, bringing the fibers upright. I was taught that you dampen a white towel, place over the carpet indentation, and run a warm iron over until it dries.
I’ve heard great results from both methods.  Opposite temperature strategies.  Maybe the secret is in the wetting and drying process.
